The historic ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ถ๐น๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐๐ฎ๐ด๐ฒ ๐ง๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ถ๐น follows the route of the old Eastern Railway. Passing through quaint Perth Hills communities such as Darlington, Glen Forrest, Parkerville and Sawyers Valley you will discover the individual history, story and character of the settlements that sprung up along the line in the late 1800s. With scenic views and numerous historical points of interest along the way, this 41km journey sure is unique and inspiring!

Recently, we headed out on our mountain bikes to explore the trail, and must say we were impressed! Starting at Bellevue we had a long slow 15km uphill ride to Mundaring which definitely got the heart pumping and legs aching. After stopping at the beautiful Sculpture Park in Mundaring for a picnic lunch we carried on to Mt Helena. Then came the very rewarding downhill ride back through Stoneville, Hovea and John Forrest NP!
The trail is broken into three sections; North, South and East:
๐ก๐ผ๐ฟ๐๐ต โ Takes you from Bellevue to Mt Helena via Greenmount, Swan View (tunnel), John Forrest National Parks, Hovea, Parkerville, Stoneville. This very scenic section was probably our favourite due to the beautiful scenery of JFNP.
๐ฆ๐ผ๐๐๐ต โ This section of the trail spans 21.6km from Bellevue to Mt Helena and will take you through many quaint towns such as Darlington, Glen Forest, Mahogany Creek, Mundaring and Sawyers Valley. With so many opportunities to stop for a coffee along the way this is a popular section.
๐๐ฎ๐๐ โ The Eastern section of the Railway reserves Heritage Trail is 18km from Mt Helena to Wooroloo via Chidlow and is not part of the loop but holds significant historic importance. Being able to cover so much ground and explore the whole trail in a day was fantastic! We highly recommend getting out on your bikes and making a day of it Off The Beaten Track!
