The 46km hike from Brookton Highway to Mt Cooke along the Bibbulmun Track is a breathtaking journey through the heart of the Darling Range, offering a true immersion into Western Australia’s diverse landscapes. 

This section of the Bibbulmun Track takes you through towering jarrah and wandoo forests, across rugged granite outcrops, and past tranquil creeks that wind their way through the bush. The trail undulates gently at times before revealing steeper ascents, rewarding hikers with stunning panoramic views. Along the way, you’ll pass Canning Campsite, a peaceful spot nestled among the trees, before continuing towards Mt Cuthbert, Mt Vincent and the impressive Mt Cooke, the highest hike-able peak in the Darling Scarp. The final ascent to Mt Cooke’s summit is a highlight, where vast rock slabs and scattered boulders lead to sweeping views stretching over the surrounding wilderness. Hidden along the ridge lies the Mt Cooke Cave, a fascinating natural shelter that adds an element of adventure to the trek. 

This multi-day journey is a perfect mix of challenge and serenity, offering a deep connection to nature, a sense of accomplishment, and the magic of being completely off the beaten track.

The Bibbulmun Track stretches 1003 km from Kalamunda to Albany and is Western Australia’s longest walking trail. This is your chance to experience one of the most scenic and rewarding sections on a 3-day, 2-night adventure from Brookton Highway to Mt Cooke!

No overnight experience necessary, we will guide you through the preparation and hike so you have the chance to upskill under the leadership of our Guides.

Day 1: We’ll pick you up in Jarrahdale at 9am then transport you to the beginning of our 8.6km hike. Day 1 begins at Brookton Highway, trekking through lush forest and along relatively easy forest tracks before setting up camp at Canning Campsite. As night falls, enjoy a hearty dinner, unwind by the campfire (pending fire ban), and listen to the sounds of the bush as the stars light up the sky.

Day 2: After breakfast, we’ll continue our journey towards Alyi-wa Miya Group Campsite. The ascents start to increase today, and the forest gets even more lush and rewarding. Hiking a total of 16.6kms today, you’ll reach Alyi-wa Miya Group Campsite mid-afternoon and be rewarded with stunning views right from your tent site! Tonight enjoy some R n R ready for your most challenging day tomorrow!

Day 3: On our final day, we’ll pack up early and begin our 21km journey summiting 3 peaks; Mt Cuthbert, Mt Vincent & Mt Cooke! You can expect to be challenged today, but the breathtaking views will make your journey all the more rewarding. Explore the elusive Mt Cooke Cave, and soak in the sense of adventure before your final descent down Mt Cooke where the OTBT bus will be waiting for you. You’ll be feeling high on life as you complete your 3 day hike with new friendships, amazing memories, and a huge sense of achievement.

Distance: Total hike distance over 3 days is approximately 46kms. The trail is mixed terrain but majority of the hike is quite gentle. There are a couple of inclines/declines but very manageable. We’ll be going a pace where everyone can enjoy the journey as well as the destination. Suitable for beginner hikers with a reasonable level of fitness. Meeting Place: Jarrahdale RV Park, Jarrahdale RD & Millers Rd, Jarrahdale

What to Bring? As a rough guide you will require a tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, stove, pots & stove gas, liner, pillow, clothes, toiletries, 3ltrs water, and a pack big enough to put it all in (55-65ltr).

Gear Hire: OTBT has tents, sleeping mats, stove & pot sets, 65ltr backpacks available to hire. Please add gear on the extras page as you move through the booking process. Please note you will be required to pay a refundable bond on hired equipment. The bond fee is dependent on the equipment hired. Equipment can be collected from our “Basecamp” in Serpentine the week of the tour.

Payment: To secure your place on this tour you can either pay in full or pay a 20% deposit. With the balance due 30 days prior to tour departure. Payment requests will be emailed at intervals leading up to your departure to make paying off the balance more manageable.
