Just three hours’ drive south of Perth, WA’s Margaret River Region is one of Australia’s most compact, yet strikingly diverse holiday destinations stretching from Busselton down to Augusta. It’s an enticing mosaic of pristine natural wonders, amazing coastline and thrill-seeking adventure activities!
Off The Beaten Track WA has put together a jam packed weekend tour featuring four of our favourite adventures to showcase the best of what the amazing South West Margaret River Region has to offer.
Day 1 | Travel & Set Up Camp – Friday 6 November 2020 (Departing 2pm)
We will set off from Perth with our sights on Jarrahdene Campsite, where we’ll set up basecamp for our long weekend adventure! After a delicious campsite dinner, you will relax under the night sky and admire the towering Jarrah, Marri and Peppermint trees.
Day 2 | SUPs, Monkeys, Fat Bikes & Sting Rays – Saturday 7 November 2020
After a deliciously cooked breakfast, we’ll head to the coast for a stand up paddle (SUP) session in Gnarabup bay! This region features some of the most pristine waters! During your SUP session, you will experience the reefs, wildlife and the unbelievable beauty of the area from the ocean’s perspective. Stand-up Paddling allows a unique perspective as you can look down to see through the clear waters of Gnarabup Bay.
From Gnarabup, we’ll travel to Wilyabrup and visit the cheekiest place on Earth – The Cheeky Monkey Brewing Co for lunch! We will relax, unwind then recharge ready for our afternoon thrill-seeking session on some adrenaline pumping Fat Bikes!
We will head into the beautiful Boranup forest to explore the towering Karri trees up close along the forest trails, before exiting onto coastal dunes and heath enjoying the spectacular views at Contos beach cliffs. Here we’ll enjoy OTBT’s signature gourmet spread and coastal sightseeing before jumping back on the bikes and head back through the forest to the start point.
We will finish our day watching the sun go down in Hamelin Bay whilst we spot the sting rays near the old jetty.
Day 3 | Cape to Cape, Contos Cliffs & Blackwood River Kayaking – Sunday 8 November 2020
After a good nights sleep and another delicious OTBT breakfast, we’ll pack down camp, pop on the hiking boots and hit the trails for a morning hike along the Cape to Cape track! Today will begin at the historic Redgate Beach – a local surfing and fishing favourite and head 12.5kms South to Contos Campsite. This is very likely one of the best sections of the Cape to Cape Track: the scenic coastal cliffs at Bob’s Hollow and Contos are just breathtaking!
You will recharge on a yummy BBQ lunch at Contos before we head off for our last adventure session for the weekend – Kayaking along the Blackwood River!
The Blackwood River is one of Western Australia’s premier kayaking locations and is surrounded by beautiful untouched scenery and wildlife. Paddling the river whilst surrounded by the national park is so peaceful and stunningly beautiful that you often find yourself slipping into a meditative state. It is one of Margaret River’s hidden gems and is definitely a ‘must-do’ experience when visiting the region. A relaxing paddle along the river whilst maneuvering around fallen trees and spotting the local wildlife is the perfect way to finish our South West Adventure Escape!
We will then head back to the city, refreshed and ready to tackle the new week with plenty of amazing memories and stories to tell!
