Our Bibbulmun Track Endurance Hike – Mundaring to Helena is designed for hikers wanting to challenge themselves, boost stamina and experience a classic section of the Bibbulmun Track at a purposeful pace.
We’ll begin at the Perth Hills Discovery Centre and follow the Bibbulmun through recovering jarrah–marri forest toward Ball Creek Campsite. The first few kilometres offer a steady warm-up on gently undulating terrain before the track drops into lush valley country filled with tall eucalypts, bracken ferns and grasstrees. As the understorey thickens and the air cools, Mann’s Gully marks the shift into more demanding terrain, guiding us toward granite outcrops with views over quiet wandoo woodland — a great moment to pause, take in the scenery and reset.
From here the real endurance work begins. The ascent toward Helena is steep in sections and guaranteed to raise the heart rate. We’ll take a short break at the lookout to admire sweeping views across the Helena River Valley and Lake CY O’Connor before continuing to the beautifully rebuilt Helena Campsite. This striking rammed-earth shelter, reopened in 2019 after bushfire damage, makes for a scenic lunch stop before we tackle the return journey.
With 24km of varied terrain, long-distance pacing, solid climbs and steady descents, this hike is crafted to help you improve strength, resilience and trail confidence while immersing yourself in the natural beauty of the Darling Range.
