The 31km KattaMorda Heritage Trail is rich in natural beauty, history and culture! Starting at Mundaring, this long distance trail will take you on a wondrous journey through jarrah, marri and wandoo woodlands intertwined with stories from the past. Unlike many linear walks that follow a single valley or ridgeline, the KattaMorda Heritage Trail constantly changes character, with narrow single-track meandering through dense woodland before opening onto wide forest roads, visiting a historic timber tramway and quiet picnic reserves. Along the way you will encounter granite outcrops, flowing creeks in winter, fern-filled gullies, towering forest and occasional glimpses across the Darling Scarp. Expect a few steep hills!

Experience this magic in one day on the KattaMorda Heritage Trail | End to End Day Hike Challenge!

After transferring from Hardinge Park in Orange Grove to the Mundaring Sculpture Park you will first hike along the former Mundaring Weir Railway Line, then through mixed jarrah forest – until you reach Fred Jacoby Park. Passing the Mundaring Hotel and the No1 Pump Station at Mundaring Weir for a dose of history, you will then venture into the stunning Paulls Valley and along some narrow windy trails until we reach Mount Gunjin.

Then it’s time to weave and wind your way through the forest. It won’t be long before you pass the delightful orchards of Pickering Brook and those stunning Bickley Valley views. The jarrah and wandoo woodlands are lush and filled with an under-story of blooming wildflowers. Your hike continues past the old site of the Mason Mill, down the old tramway and on to Australia’s oldest wooden bridge, before continuing through to Hardinge Park.

Mid morning we will break for a delicious OTBT style morning tea, and later in the day pause at a scenic spot for lunch (BYO).
